Top luxury British retreat The Idle Rocks in St Mawes will host a culinary weekend celebrating local produce and recipes from the UK’s South West, welcoming chefs from acclaimed restaurants in Devon, Bristol and Cornwall.

The evening of Saturday 19th November 2016 will see Simon Hulstone of Michelin starred The Elephant in Devon, Josh Eggleton from Michelin starred The Pony & Trap in Bristol, and Jude Kereama of 2 AA rosette Kota Restaurant in Cornwall, join forces with head chef at The Idle Rocks, Guy Owen and his team. Guests will enjoy a five course tasting menu with each chef presenting a dish throughout the evening. Using the very best of local and seasonal ingredients, South West Chef Night at The Idle Rocks will showcase culinary excellence from the region.

The evening will commence with a glass of Cornish Knightor sparkling wine, canapés and freshly baked bread by Guy and his team.

Once seated, Simon Hulstone, chef proprietor at restaurant The Elephant, will present the first dish, his Brixham crab salad, pea mousse, mango and dashi sorbet with Tellicherry pepper crackers. The award winning chef, with a talent for using local and seasonal produce, will introduce his dish, highlighting the ingredients used to create the memorable flavours.

Celebrating the fish abundant off the coast of the South West, Josh Eggleton, Chef Patron of The Pony & Trap in Bristol, will present a dish of spiced monkfish, cauliflower, and mussel barigoule. Josh is an advocate of sustainability and seasonality, and will be sharing an insight into preparing this speciality dish.

Guy will present the main course of braised Cornish beef short rib, radish, broccoli, honey and soy, explaining which local farm the beef was sourced from that morning. Since joining The Idle Rocks as head chef, Guy has introduced a menu championing Cornish food, working with local fishermen, greengrocers and sourcing the best meat from the West Country.

To complete the meal, a chocolate tart with miso caramel, ginger and hazelnut will be presented by Jude Kereama, Chef Owner of Kota Restaurant, Cornwall. Jude’s ethos of creating a menu inspired by his mother’s cooking and local Cornish produce will be experienced through this dish, a sweet finale to enjoy ahead of coffee and petit fours.

A South West Weekend Break package is available from £430 per room for two, subject to availability, and includes two nights bed and breakfast at The Idle Rocks, with the chef’s showcase dinner on the Saturday night. For local residents there are a limited number of tickets for the South West Chef Night at The Idle Rocks set menu, priced at £75 per person. Guests will receive a glass of Knightor sparkling wine on arrival, with the evening taking place from 7pm on Saturday 19th November 2016.
